The film “The President Is Coming” has intelligent script as it shows many social issues effortlessly in a humorist style. The film has a bunch of youngsters keen on shaking hands with U.S. President George Bush when he arrives India in the year 2006.The contestants rivaling to get the opportunity to handshake with the President has to be aware of “India Shinning” concept and the lucky one will be selected after undergoing through many phases of selection procedures and as the interviews and tests are conducted, the real identity of the candidates gets revealed.

The social issues like male chauvinism, gay relations, homosexuality and brain drain have been taken up in the movie but the writer refused to make it a serious movie that fights for social awareness instead a light approach on these subject have been taken. The overall look of the film is not very bright and even the pace pf story gets dull in second half but the performances and dialogues are effectively communicative.

The story is set on the incident of arrival of President Bush to India to celebrate Indianness and Bush has to shake hands with Indian youth who will represent India and showcase Indian Shinning amidst growing Indian population. Some twenty contestants get selected in the final events and they are tested for mental and physical abilities.

Konkona Sen plays the role of a writer who considers herself to be an ideal contestant because she is a booker prize winner. There are other candidates that include software engineer casteist communal MBA, businessman, desi Hollywoodian, social worker, accent trainer and others.

The film is not polished in looks but a few scenes like the communal praising Urdu poems and participants getting tested on their views on Osama and Nelson Mandela is worth noticing. The performance of Konkona as a Pseudo intellectual is applauding and other actors Satchit Puranik, Vivek Gomber, Namit Das, Shernaz Patel and Shivani Tanksale are also impressive.

The film will not be attracting huge crowds to theatres but it can be a multiplex venture.
