Actresses doing stalwart roles
Many of the Bollywood actresses today are aspiring to perform thrills and actions in the movies. The movies like Cash, Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Dus has female actresses doing actions and thrills. Initially as the image of Indian woman was homely and non muscular, rare movies were made on actresses doing actions scenes.
A trend of action by actresses was started by Nadia from the movie Hunterwaali, where she alone fights with the male villain in the movie.
The complete change in the image of actress was brought in mid of 1970s by actresses like Hema Malini, Rekha, Shabana Azmi and Parveen Babby. Hema Malini did the twin sister role in the movie Seeta Aur Geta where she was to perform to beat the villain herself. After that Zeenat Aman did movies like Don and a few other roles and hence, the ladies in Indian Cinema were performing stunts.
The new trend was of female doing riding horses, biking, driving cars, jumping from buildings and fighting with a group of people alone. In the later 1990s on Sridevi, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit and many other actresses performed the actions performed few years back by male actors.
Current generations of actresses are seen doing action in many movies. In Cash, Shamita Shetty has performed some great action scenes. In Dhoom 1, Esha Deol was performing the actions and Dhoom2 had Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bipasha Basu performed the scenes of fighting, shooting, jumping from buildings, bungee jumping, motor biking, skating and playing basketballs etc.
Before the recent released movies the movie like Dus had Shipla Shetty and Esha Deol performing stunts. In the current genre of ladies performing actions Esha Deol, Bipasha Basu and Shamita Shetty are the upcoming ones. It is said that Priyanka Chopra will also be doing actions in many of her next movies. Urvashi Sharma of Naqaab was seen performing some of the excellent stunts in her first movie itself. Actress Sushmita Sen may perform action in her movie Jhansi Ki Rani.
