Current Hindi Movies are Remake, Sequel or Painted in Colors
Today we find many movies in Bollywood that are following the concept of remaking some previously made blockbuster or making a sequel. In the trend we also find that the movies from Hollywood and Bollywood both have been copied by the Indian film makers.
We have many so called inspired movies this year like Partner, Heyy Babyy, and RGV Ki Aag, Victoria no 203.Last year the movie Don was a remake.
The other formulae used by the filmmaker are to make a sequel like Munnabhai sequel, Hera Pheri sequel and Dhoom sequel. The new ones in the sequel list are Heyy Babyy and Chak De India sequel that are proposed to be made.
The last but not the least, short cut, taken by movie makers today is to make the black and white movie into a colored and re-release it.
These days’ remakes are considered to be the hit formula by the Hindi film Industry. It started with Sanjay Leela Bhansali making Devdas remake. Devdas has been made many times in different eras by different directors. Getting a story from a Hollywood movie and making it has been done many times in Indian Cinema. The current trend is to copy the style and story as well from the 1970’s.The presentation of stars, their look, dress, sets all seem to be coming from the artistic 70’s decade of Indian cinema itself. The new movies to be released like Khoya Khoya Chand, Om Shanti Om etc promos are similar to the 70’s style.
Extreme in copying can be seen with the new movies having even the songs from the oldies. It seems we don’t have new scripts, ideas or talent in the cinemas. The directors are unable to bring a different idea that can start a new trend in Indian Cinema. The trend that was started by movies like Sholay or Dilwaale Dulhaniyaan Le Jayenge. It is clear that movie makers are finding short cuts to make money and hence they are omitting art.
The audience is not accepting everything, even a remake with no updating or modern fillings are not getting accepted by the audience. Yesteryears, the directors actors, script writers used to spent lot of their time and reinvented things many times to get the final upshot. Today nobody has much time to spend on a single movie and so we do not get the movies like Sholay. As it is finally been declared by the director of RGV Ki Aag, that Sholay can not be remade..
