Movie Review: Jab We MetMovie Review: Jab We Met Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Dara Singh, Kiran Juneja, Saumya Tandon Director: Imtiaz Ali Producer: Dhillin Mehta Music Directors: Pritam Chakraborty, Sandesh Shandilya
Imitiaz Ali, who had earlier made an impressive debut as a director with Abhay Deol - Ayesha Takia starrer ‘Socha Na Tha’ proves his prowess as a suave technician yet again. The film is largely inspired by the most common love stories previously seen in films like A Walk In The Clouds, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke and Kunwara to name a few, but Jab We Met stands out due to its treatment and Shahid-Kareena’s sizzling chemistry, which has been tapped in an immaculate manner. Aditya (Shahid Kapur), an industrialist, who is unable to witness his love exchanging vows with someone else, boards a train to move out of his pains in a pointless way. On the way, he meets with our heroine Geet (Kareena Kapoor), a gorgeous girl blabbers her way into Aditya’s irated mood. Geet is on her way to Bhatinda, where she has plans of fleeing with her boyfriend (Tarun Arora). Falling sick of Geet’s behavior, Aditya leaves the train. Things sum up when Geet misses her train in quest of persuading Aditya to get aboard. The twosome are left high and dry in a deserted station, without any money. The pleasant journey of pure affection begins when Geet and Aditya make their way through the nature’s beauty to reach Geeta’s hometown. Geet’s family treats the couple as lovebirds. After a while, Geet elopes with her boyfriend and Aditya accompanies her to show it to the world that they were lovers. They go to Manali, where Aditya decides to resurrect his business and come out of his aimless life. Aditya, strikes back and does well in his professional front. One day, he gets a shock when he learns that Geet has not returned home. He then decides to find her and bring her back to the family. The rest of the story narrates the manner in which Aditya manages to track Geet in an Himalayan town and gets her back to her own self. It’s only a little later that they realise that love always existed between them. Jab We Met’s subject holds great interest to the viewer, who is catered to a variety of colours filled with the vibrancy of North Indian celebrations. Though the story slows down in the latter half, it is only because of the drama and content upliftment that is paced amidst the funny sidelines. Like a good film, the climax is fabulously shot making up for the shadows of the second half. The credit of making a good film goes to the director Imitiaz Ali, who is also in charge of the script, screenplay and dialogue. Bollywood must be proud of being honoured by the presence of such a fine storyteller, who has maintained to speak through his films. The editing and the screenplay needed to be more developed a little more, as the story lacks crispness in the second half. Cinematography depicts the maturity in Natarajan’s vision. Musically, the film will make up go bonkers with the fantastic visuals and choreography. Ye Ishq Hai, Mauja Hi Mauja, Tumse Hi, Nagada Nagada – all add to a fun filled experience. Actingwise, full marks to both the actors who have raised their performances to an altogether different level. Shahid Kapur strikes a firm balance in his attitude, style, expressions and diction. Certainly, this is the best performance of Shahid till date. Kareena, with her great screen presence shows fantabulous joy and dramatic shades in her expressions. She sizzles as a performer with her onscreen sweetheart Shahid. Overall, Jab We Met has all the ingredients of an entertaining love story with ample quotient of drama, comedy, story and performances; making it a must watch this season.
