Movie Review: No SmokingMovie Review: No Smoking Producer: Vishal Bharadwaj, Kumar Mangat Director: Anurag Kashyap Star Cast: John Abraham as K, Ranvir Shorey as Abbas Tyrewala. Joy Fernandes as Alex Blown up..Director Anurag Kashyap has completely blown away the film in the smoky clouds of a dreadful dream. The film talks about nothing! Absolutely nothing!! The main storyline and the narration is completely sidelined by the amount of hard work put into perfecting the colour, frame, background score and other technical aspects of the film. The film talks about a smoker and his mishappenings in life in one jarred way of storytelling. The movie crashes from one corner, making it one of the most over rated films to get a plump in the recent times. The plot of No Smoking revolves around the main hero John Abraham, who is playing the character named K. Now, K is a hard core chain smoker. He is not ready to do anything to leave his habit, ignoring the speeches of his wife Anjali (Ayesha Takia) and friend Ranvir Shorey. One day Anjali leaves K, which pushes K to get rid of his smoky habit. He then meets Baba Bengali, Sealdahwale is a mysterious character who runs a rehabilitation hub, which help people come out of their addictions (if and only if they follow his instructions). K meets him and agrees to a freezed contract. ‘Freezed’ because once agreed upon, K can’t come out of it. Soon, K realises the power of the contract when pushes the buttons, throws caution to the wind and challenges the Baba’s agreement. K is entangled in a smoky game between the self-assumed all-knowing gatekeeper of the netherworld and an innocent. Now, K is on his way to escape from the hands of Baba. The only way is the completion of the contract. Technically speaking the film stands strong, especially the cinematography and the background score are worth an applause. Likewise, the direction, script and screenplay are a big let down. Musically, there is no treat for the viewers except for ‘Jab Bhi Cigarette Peeta Hoon’ which has been shot in truly Hollywood style. The item number picturized on Bipasha Basu is also placed at the end credits. Actingwise, all the hard work and composure shown by the actors has gone down the drain. Probably, the only reason why no other actor other than John Abraham accepted to play the lead role in the film.
