Saawariya is a story of tender love in an imaginary city

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been getting extremely negative reviews from the movie goers and critics. Many fans are praising his art of work Saawariya. The movie Saawariya is based on a tender love story between youngsters in a city that is not present in India in any case. The story made from the Fyodor Dostoevsky’s play “White Nights” shows an imaginary blue black screened city and the studio made locations.

The critics have been finding the movie too slow and many are confused over the kind of story and the message of the movie .The movie does not have the good entertainment factor needed for a Bollywood movie to be called a masala movie.

The movie Devdas was based on Bengali story and the glamour and Indian culture was accepted as it is prevalent in India but the city of Saawariya is not seen in India and so the Indian audience is finding it to be unknown. Devdas showed the story that was known to all Indians before the release of the movie and Saawariya story is not known to anybody and the story is not found in India. So the audience is criticizing the movie.

There has been a lot of negative promotion for the movie as well but all audiences going to the theatres are not university literate to watch the literature part in a movie. Bhansali also had one more discovery to set through his movie and that was launching the star kids against a Shahrukh Khan movie. Mr. Bhansali had been asking question “What the audience needed if not Saawariya “ then the answer from the audience is that the newcomer lead actors and story are too new for the simple Indian audience to understand.

Many times movies like Saawariya based on literature pick up after few weeks and get the best reviews after some time. Movies like Pakeezah and Teesari Kasam that were based on story and literature did not perform well on initial release but are getting praised even today after so many decades of their release. The movie Saawariya is definitely not a looser as the initial collections are recording full house and the negative marketing of the movie is proving to be ineffective.
