Ramayana and Bollywood

The script of Ramayana the holy book of the Hindu religion has been many times showed on the silver screen and still is the most favored one to show .The director Rajkumar Santoshi is planning to make movie on Ramayana that will be released in 2008.

The animated movie of Hanuman based on the character in Ramayana is best animated movie made till now on Indian texts. The story of Ramayana by Ramanand Sagar was one of the best and long running serials showed on Indian television screen.

The news that the story Ramayana is not a mythology but it is history of India is extremely enlightening over the story told in Ramayana. The evidence supporting Ramayana age is present not only in India but also in Sri Lanka that was conquered by Ram. The Ram Setu dam is one the remains of the Ramayana age that is still present in India and the existence of Ram is linked to some 7200 years back.

The planetary position stated in the Valmiki Ramayana that was written in Ramayana Age is supported by astronomical software of NASA. All these indicate that the culture we are carrying is not mythology but history of India and it can be linked to the early civilizations in India.

Being an important part of our culture Ramayana had been a sensitive subject of the Bollywood and a genuine effect on making a movie on the story has not been made. There are many movies under plan over Ramayana that includes the Santoshi’s movie and movie by Bengali Film maker. To play the character of Ram, actor Salman Khan has also been making plans but it has not been finalized.

For the Rajkumar Santoshi movie the star cast has been decided and it is expected that Ajay Devgan and Kajol will be in the roles of Ram and Sita .The roles of Laxman will be played by Riteish Deshmukh. Prakash Raj was named for the role of Ravan. Rajkumar Santoshi is planning to make it a big budgeted movie and audience will wait for a good Ramayana from Santosihi.

In history, in 1943 Ramayana movie was made enacted by Prithviraj Kapoor and in 1961 Sampoorna Ramayana was made casting Mahipal and Anita Guha in the role of Ram and Sita. In 1960 a movie Ramayana starring Shivaji Ganesan was also released.

A movie on Ramayan in color was made in last decade showing Jitendra and Jaya Prada in the role of Ram and Sita. The audience can wait for 2010 version of the story that can make use of the advanced technology provided to the movie makers in showing the special effect sequences in the movie.
