Bollywood and plagiarism

Bollywood is facing plagiarism and also can be blamed to follow it. Many movies are made in Bollywood that are copied or say inspired by the movies made in Hollywood .Not only copying of script but the music and way of presentation is also copied from some sources and that can be Hollywood.

The latest trend as shown in OSO is to copy from 60’s and 70’s Hindi movies .The movie OSO has much of 70’s and the forthcoming movie Khoya Khoya Chand is also based on the story of 60’s.

The movies like the last month released Speed and the earlier released movies Heyy Babby and RGV ki Aag were known to be inspirational movies.

The movies that are copied form some popular sources are many times unsuccessful. The movies having some initial idea and new subject are liked by the audience .Praise for copied movies cannot be gained.

Many Pakistani movies are also made by taking stories and concepts from Bollywood movies. The western movie makers are generally unaware of their movie getting copied by Bollywood and so the legal actions are not taken against the Bollywood movie makers.

The latest trend of promotions of movies among the international audience has affected practice of the plagiarism. If the movies are made from some western sources then it can not be promoted in theatres in the west and the movies makers are getting careful of plagiarism in Bollywood.

The movie released in 2007 Partner that was a huge success in India was stopped from being shown in UK theatres as the story was copied from Hollywood movie.

Still there are no strict rules against plagiarism in India and some strict rules and laws are needed to be enforced to stop copying
