Remakes taking over the small screen

After the remakes of Hollywood movies and Bollywood movies of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, the remakes of the small screen programs are also in news. The last popular TV serial that was watched by the old and young equally has been Ramayana and in the same pattern the serial Mahabharata was shown on the small screen.

The Hindu religious text Ramayana has always been favorite of movie makers and TV serials. The various religious functions and stage shows on the text were being organized from centuries not only in India but in many other South East Asian countries like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Nepal etc.

The serial Ramayana was made by Ramanand Sagar and Mahabharata was made by B.R. Chopra. During the telecast of the serials on the Doordarshan Channel, the audience used to sit in the front of their television sets with extreme devotions and religious feelings and they praised the actress and actors of the serial so much that they elected then to be their leader in the general elections held in India.

The remake of the serial Ramayana will be made again by the Sagar’s and the serial is being made by the grandson of the Ramanand Sagar, Shakti Sagar. Shakti Sagar is promoting the serial by telling that the new version of Ramayana will be shown with more details and exaction. Since the serial will be made by the same banner the similarity with the earlier version of Ramayana can not be ruled out.

The serial Mahabharata will be made by Bonny Bedi and it will be shown on star TV. If it really get successful then what will happen to the Saas Bahu serials made by Balalji’. But the success of the serial Prithvi Raaj Chauhaan must have made the channel to think about changing the trends from Saas Bahu to historical subjects.

After these two big serial may be Hum Log or Buniyaad comes again on the small screen with a sequel tag or a remake name.
