Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion is a widely researched emotional movie based on tough lives of glamour dolls. The film comes with a sensible script on life of fashion designers and models. The film shows challenges faced by models that appear brimming with high self worth on ramp, walking on stage, in tiny loosely stitched clothes. The film depicts lifestyle of these girls and boys who are disallowed to think or resist situations in which they are uncomfortable.
The film is repetitive as it goes sarcastic on high profile group of men and woman called the high society people, who are often targeted in Madhur’s films, this one also shows the gloomy side of something that looks bright from outside and it shows overly supportive professional friends ,that is illusory. The music of the film is perfectly in harmony with the script of the movie and it enhances the film’s effect.
Madhur invested huge money on making his movie “Fashion†look styled and rich and that shows in the movie. A few sequences are amazing to watch. The film doesn’t loose a grip even in a single sequence and the top ladies are amazing to watch performing models. Both leading ladies, Priyanka and Kangana deserve honor for their powerful performances. Sequence when the two models meet in a restroom is effective. The film takes many instances from real life models including the wardrobe malfunctioning incident that happened on ramp with Carol Gracias.
The story of the film is about Meghna who undergoes many tough life experiences that models sometime follow to reach the top group and she reaches and she becomes famous. The film shows that walking on ramp is short term fame and Meghna looses all at a point of her life but the story gets powerful when Megna struggles from a low to get back to her successful life. Kangana Ranaut plays another model, who is Meghna’s competitor and her life is shown similar to Geetanjali Nagpal, the model who was found drugged, begging on streets in Delhi. The concluding part of the movie shows the struggling model reach a high after struggle and the final show is applauding.
There are many real life professionals in the film including Noyonika Chatterjee, Alecia Raut and Mugdha Godse, who plays the role of a bold model, who is Priyanka’s friend, and she is into a troubled affair. Sequence of gay designers exploiting male models has been shown and socialite like Queenie Dhody is also present in the film. Models used as items by rich men and unconventional forced artificial lifestyle of models are depicted. Performance is brilliant of everybody. Direction is perfect. The costumes, music and ramp are all just impressive.
The film is “Fashion†worth watching.
