MOVIE REVIEW: HATTRICK (2007)MOVIE REVIEW: HATTRICK (2007) Cast: Kunal Kapoor, Rimi Sen, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Danny Director: Milan Luthria Producer: Ronnie Screwvala Music Director: Pritam Screenplay: Rajat Arora Ratings: 2/5 Hattrick means three in the general sense. Here, in the movie it means three parallel un-related stories patched into one movie revolving around the theme of the on-going Cricket World Cup. India is driven by the game of cricket and the glamour of bollywood. Hence, Hattrick is a culmination of the two.
The dilemma of the characters is well depicted. Nana’s expressionless nature resembles his character that of a person who is completely detached from the simple pleasures of life. Then we have Kunal Kapoor and Rimi Sen. Kunal loves cricket even more than he loves his wife. Rimi is least interested in the game. But then things take a turn and Rimi falls in love with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Paresh Rawal is mind boggling in the comedy scenes and Danny plays a cricket fanatic effectively. Then what went wrong with the movie? Director Milan Luthria goes overboard when he shows cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle putting together a cricket World Cup final match from previous match tapes. The film lays its base in the first half and when you are ready for some acceleration and twists in the second half…it disappoints.
Milan Luthria’s direction is satisfactory, but it’s the writing that acts as a spoke in the wheel. Pritam’s music is average considering his previous works. No song will stay on your lips once you are off the theatre except for ‘Shout India’, just because it is aesthetically shot. Cinematography is not good enough. Hattrick will find it difficult to sustain the heat of World Cup at the box office as people have seen better products on the similar theme such as Iqbal, Lagaan and the expectations will be sky high. The outcome of the film depends on the word of mouth and if that happens then it will certain take a few wickets, if not a Hattrick. Last 5 posts in Movies
