Music Review: Ek Chalis Ki Last Local (2007)

Cast: Abhay Deol, Neha Dhupia, Snehal Dhabi, Deepak Shirke

Director: Sanjay Khanduri

Producer: Gurunath

Music Director: Sandesh Sandilya, Amar Mohile, Dj Aqeel, Sanjeev, Tknow Frankcorsi

Lyricist: Mehboob, Ankur Tewari

Music Label: Universal

Ek Chalis Ki Last Local is uncertain, riotous with alarming twists thrown in to the plot. The film is written and directed by debutante Sanjay Khanduri and stars Abhay Deol and Neha Dhupia in the leading roles. Conceptually the movie is very different but musically it fails to leave an impact on you. Well, as a matter of fact the film is not musical so expecting some great music is out of question. Let’s see what the local train has to offer before it departures.

eckllEkka Chauka (Singer: Alisha Chinoy, Sandesh Sandilya)

Laree Choote (Singer: Xulfi)
Rating: 6/10
The track opens with a punch line, “”Wo Kehte Hain Na, Jo Hota Hai Acche Ke Liye Hota Hai…Galat Kehte Hain”, delivered by Abhay Deol. This one will definitely make you think. ‘Laree Choote’ by Xulfi of Call- The Band has a rock base to it while giving an experience of a new sound, it moves at a decent pace without letting the music take over the essence of the song. The song has some good lyrics which will add on to the meaning of the film.

Rating: 6/10
‘Ekka Chauka’ is a delightful number set in a dance bar by composer Sandesh Sandilya. The track is quite different from the regular dance bar numbers in the sense that it has a European feel attached to it with saxophone playing all and all out in the track. Alisha Chinai with Sandesh Shandilya render their husky tone for the mood of the track.

Bheegi Seeli Si (Singer:Ankur Tewari)
Rating: 5/10
Music Director cum lyricist cum singer Ankur Tewari rocks all the way in the first romantic number of the track. The song belongs to the pop genre with an added jazz feel to it. The track may work well with the youth as it has some good piece of Indi-pop music. Success cannot be guaranteed for this track which needs to be promoted well to get results.

kkPanga (Singer: Sonu Nigam, Alisha Chinoy)

Akh (Singer: Rashmi, Anoushka)
Rating: 2/10
Hear it once…you will come to know that Tknow Frankcorsi, the composer is technically correct but musically unappealing. Lyrics are dumb, to say the least. It goes like this, ‘Akh Lad Gayi Tere Naal Soniye; Ho Jaaye Kuk-du-ka-du’.the tune are mediocre and voices of Rashmi and Anoushka fail to create a magic. All in all this one is a boring number.

Rating: 4/10
This time Alisha Chinoy teams up with the voice of Hindi cinema Sonu Nigam to give the most forgetful number of the album. The song has a Indianized feel attached to it. Mehboob’s lyrics, Sanjeev’s music and Aqeel creativity don’t come to rescue this track. Overall, the track may be used in places all throughout the movie.

Overall Soundtrack: 4/10 Musically not yours…
